Hydrostatic Sensing for Constrained Installations
Pressure EX is a hydrostatic pressure-based level sensor for installations where radar or ultrasonic sensing is not viable — and where safety regulations require ATEX/IECEx certified hardware. It measures tank levels using a submersible probe, independent of tank geometry, line-of-sight, or internal obstructions. Certified for use in Zone 0 explosive atmospheres (SGS22ATEX0060X / IECEx BAS 22.0034X / II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga), it enables monitoring in environments where standard sensors are not permitted.
Where Pressure EX Fits
- Tanks with long or angled openings
- Tanks with internal cross bracing
- Geometry obstructing line-of-sight measurement
- Installations requiring probe-based sensing
- Zone 0 explosive atmosphere installations requiring ATEX/IECEx certified hardware (SGS22ATEX0060X / IECEx BAS 22.0034X / II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga)
Industry applications: Heating Oil · Diesel
Key Capabilities
- Hydrostatic pressure measurement
- Threaded opening adapters (¾, 1, 1¼, 1½, 2 inch)
- Connectivity: LTE NB-IoT + LTE CAT-M1 (no 2G, no WiFi)
- Probe-based measurement (liquid-contact)

Ideal Use Cases
- Heating oil/diesel portfolios with complex tank geometry
- Sites where radar/ultrasonic are obstructed
- ATEX Zone 0 installations — tank environments with explosive atmospheres where certified intrinsically safe hardware is required
Limitations
- Requires suitable opening for probe insertion
- Product density must be configured correctly
- 300 mbar mapping is validated for heating oil/diesel only
When to Use a Different Sensor
Pressure EX is a specialised device for certified and constrained environments. Consider an alternative when:
- The installation does not require ATEX/IECEx certified hardware (→ use FoxPressure Gen 4)
- Radar measurement is stable and feasible for the tank geometry (→ use FoxRadar Gen 4)
- Simpler installation is preferred and the environment is not hazardous
Role Within the FoxInsights System
Pressure EX provides level time-series input to the platform layer for forecasting. Monitoring is sensing; forecasting remains platform-layer.
